Chef Chu's is a chinese restaurant in Los Altos, California. It is listed at 1067 N San Antonio Rd, Los Altos, CA 94022, which places it among the local businesses of Los Altos that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Los Altos; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 11:30 am–2:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (650) 948-2696. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is chefchu.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 3,157 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinese restaurant in Los Altos and suggests consistent service.

Chef Chu’s is an iconic Chinese restaurant (albeit Americanized) that I had heard a lot about. The place itself is very cozy looking and you can tell it’s been around for 50 years - it has that kind of lived in, almost dingy look to it. Our plates were a little dirty looking. There is a lot of seating and people are efficient, I still recommend a reservation. Food itself was okay, we got the cold bamboo shoots which were good but not fantastic, and then schezuan beef which was yummy but a little too crispy, and the smoked pork. Now that dish was AWFUL - rice could not cut through how awfully salty it was. I was not impressed by anything. They did give us tea though! The price is also not that worth it, each dish was at least $20 which is insane for apps and the small portion size

Very popular Chinese restaurant for over 5 decades. Chef Chu still comes around to greet his guests and his son Larry is a great host helping you with ordering dinner . His other son Jon Chu is producer director or Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked . And was a guest judge at Dancing with the Stars.. wicked night. A iconic restaurant b. Check out the guest photos on their wall

As a Wicked fan and avid foodie, I was so excited to check this place out. The food was just delicious and so comforting. The service was as good as it gets with the servers and hosts knowing so many of their customers. Bonus points for the Wicked stuff hidden around the restaurant!

I hadn't been here in a long time and some friends wanted to eat here, so we did. It was good. Chinese restaurants are getting scarce, and Chef Chu's is generally good. It was crowded on a Sat afternoon. My husband and friend started with steamed pork buns which they both enjoyed. Then we all shaared Mu Shu chicken. I think it was the best dish that we ordered. The pancakes were nice and thin, the chicken and mushrooms were tasty, and the plum sauce was delicious. We then had curry prawns, chicken with sizzling rice, spicy eggplant, and Chow Fun with chicken. I hadn't had chicken with sizzling rice before. It's very bland, I wouldn't ord order it again. I think people like the sizzle and crackle, other than that, it's not very interesting. The eggplant was tasty, I added some chili paste for a bit of extra heat. I also liked the Chow Fun. It was a nice lunch.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area. Plenty of options: recommending the duck and beef dishes. Love hot and sour soup but here it was not as good as I like; less flavor and spicy. Still one of my best places for Asian food! They allow you to add meet options to vegetable dishes!
